Rokin 49 – Amsterdam

Rokin 49 in Amsterdam is distinguished by its unique semi-rounded roof structure featuring diamond-shaped sandwich panels. Octatube Services maintains this remarkable roof and replaces sandwich panels when necessary.

Innovative Roof Structure

The roof structure of Rokin 49 is 80 meters long and consists of a gridshell covered with 423 diamond-shaped sandwich panels composed of warm-bent glass, cladding, and insulation material. All panels are identical in shape, but the size of the applied glass varies. The seam between the glass and the panel is completely flush and structurally sealed. Due to their composition, these panels significantly contribute to the building physics properties of the roof structure. Thanks to its semi-rounded shell shape, the roof is self-supporting, eliminating the need for columns.

Rope-Access Technique

Octatube Services conducts annual maintenance on the roof, including glass cleaning and visual inspection of the sealant joints in the roof structure. In addition to regular maintenance, we also replace any damaged sandwich panels. To accomplish this, we use rope-access techniques, allowing us to reach any position on the roof.
