Teylers Museum – Haarlem
Octatube Services is set to renovate the glass façades of the Teylers Museum in Haarlem. This iconic museum, the oldest in the Netherlands, is an important cultural and historical monument. The façade renovation is a part of a broader restoration of the building, which also includes the Prentenkabinet, the Expo Hall, and the corridor floors, as well as the creation of a new entrance to the exhibition hall.
Thirty-Year-Old façades
The glass point-supported façades of Teylers Museum were realised in 1995 by Octatube, featuring load-bearing columns made of Lignostone – an innovative material consisting of laminated and compressed wood. After nearly thirty years, the glass panels are due for renewal, including an upgrade to meet current insulation standards, in line with the museum’s sustainability goals.
Renovation
Octatube Services will replace the old glass panels and make the necessary adjustments to the existing façade structure. The renovation includes five façades of varying sizes, including a new interior glass wall. This will be installed as a glass partition at the entrance to the exhibition hall. We will also replace a broken pane in the canopy.
Adhesive Glass Connections
This project offers not only the opportunity to restore the unique façades but also to further refine our expertise in adhesive glass connections. It allows us to improve the development of point-supports: transitioning from rigid connections to articulated glass nodes – a significant technical advancement.
Preparations are in full swing. The execution of this project is scheduled for the second half of June 2025.
