Music Pavilion Haarlemmerhout

Since 1984, the Haarlemmerhout in the Netherlands has been home to a unique glass music dome. Octatube Services upgraded the structure with new glass in 2004 and conducted a full-scale restoration in 2021, prioritizing the reuse of high-quality materials wherever feasible.

Geodesic dome

The design and realisation of the dome date back to 1984. The dome is supported by ten columns and spans 9 metres across, designed as a geodesic dome: a three-frequency icosahedron. Its distinct geometry is made of white aluminum rods, with triangular glass panels set on aluminum OT profiles and fixed with aluminium screw strips.

Re-glazed

The dome suffered damage due to vandalism with several glass panels shattered. Additionally, leaks and nearby plant residue led to significant wear In 2004, Octatube Services installed new laminated, tempered glass panels to replace the original non-tempered ones. Instead of returning the cover strips, we applied sealant joints in combination with clamping plates. This emphasises the crystal-like appearance of the music dome.

Renovation

In 2021, the Octatube Services team revitalised the dome to its former glory by thoroughly cleaning the entire structure and replacing damaged glass panels. We recoated some of the glass fasteners and reused them with fresh rubbers, hence prolonging the longevity of the dome.
